At Mercer Agency, we believe insurance should protect you clearly and fairly — not surprise you when it matters most. That’s why we’re trying to clarify recent changes that affect how wind and hail damage will be covered under your homeowner’s policy.
1️⃣ New Wind & Hail Deductible Options
As of January 1, 2025, homeowners can select a percentage-based deductible for wind or hail damage instead of a flat dollar amount.
How it works:
If your home is insured for $500,000 and you select a 1% deductible, your share of a covered claim would be $5,000.
Available options:
0.5% | 1% | 2% | 3% | 5%
These deductibles apply to all wind or hail-related damage — including roofs, siding, gutters, windows, and pools.
2️⃣ Updated Roof Coverage
Farm Bureau has updated how roof damage is evaluated following wind or hail losses.
Roofs 0–15 years old (and in good condition):
You may remove the Actual Cash Value (ACV) endorsement and select any deductible equal to or greater than your standard policy deductible.
Roofs 15+ years old or unverified age:
You may still remove the ACV endorsement but must carry a minimum 2% wind/hail deductible.
All roofs must be in good condition — no curling, lifting, or significant wear.
